Match Preview: Redditch United (A)
This evening we travel to The Valley Stadium in the 10th match of our Pitching In Southern League season.
At the weekend Long Eaton United almost clinched their first home win of the season were it not for Kelvin Langmead's equaliser deep into stoppage time.
The Blues came back from a goal-down at the break with Notts County loanee Ryley Reynolds equalising in superb fashion. Then, new signing James Spruce fired United in front - his first goal for the club since signing last week. However, with seven additional minutes left to play, the pressure was mounting and Langmead brought the game level once again.
With a minute left to play in injury time Reynolds and Stewart O'Shane clashed off the ball, and with both players already on bookings, the pair were dismissed by the referee.
Tonight's hosts Redditch United returned to winning ways at the weekend with a 2-3 win away to St. Ives Town. Redditch trailed by two goals to nil at half-time but Alex Cameron reduced the deficit just four minutes after the restart. The goal turned out to be a catalyst for a sensational comeback from the visitors, as Reece Flanagan's brace put Redditch ahead and earned them three points on the road.
The result saw Redditch United climb up to fifth place in the league table, while Long Eaton United remained at the foot of the table after the late drama at Grange Park denied them any movement from 22nd place.
The Managers' Quotes:
After the draw to Kettering Town at the weekend, Lewis McGugan looked ahead to Monday. "We have got to dust ourselves off and go again" McGugan said: "but the confidence that we take into Monday, and we can take into games now, is a big thing for the whole group.
"I think the fans are starting to see what we are trying to do, what we are trying to create and they are starting to see evidence of that on the pitch. We are nowhere near where we want to be but it's good steps in the right direction."
Brad Munn added: "The last three games have shown improvements - we've put dominating performances in but there is an area of the performance that still needs work."
The Opposition:
Redditch United have experienced a strong start to the season, earning 15 points from the first nine games played. Their win at the weekend made it three wins in their last six and brought an end to their four-match run of fixtures played away from home.
After his brace against St Ives, midfielder Reece Flanagan is their top goalscorer so far with six contributions.
