Match Preview – Chesterfield FC (H)

The Blues’ mid-week fixture sees Vanarama National League side Chesterfield FC make the journey to Grange Park for a Cawarden Derbyshire Senior Challenge Cup clash.

In United’s previous match, they secured their second victory of the season and their first clean sheet at Grange Park.

A 1-0 victory over Berkhamsted FC to complete the double over them this season, thanks to an early goal from James Spruce.

Berko pressurised the Blues in the second half, as they looked for an equaliser, and a late penalty looked as if they had done it, but Ross Durrant stood firm and saved the penalty to secure United all three points.

The Opposition –

Chesterfield currently top the Vanarama National league table, with an eight-point gap over second placed Bromley and two games in hand.

The Spireites produced an impressive performance in their previous outing, as a youthfully mixed squad overcame Vanarama National League North side Southport FC by six-goals-to-one on home soil.

It was an Isuzu FA Trophy Third Round fixture at the SMH Group Stadium - the visitors opened the scoring through Richie Bennett, but a Liam Jessop brace, and goals from Michael Jacobs, Harley Curtis, James Berry and Ali Mohiuddin made it an emphatic victory for the Spireites.

With Chesterfield looking to carry on their strong form in the Vanarama National League, a very mixed squad is expected to visit Grange Park in mid-week.

Previous Meeting’s –

The last time that the Blues and the Spireites met in a competitive fixture was in 2014, also whilst competing in the Derbyshire Senior Cup.

Chesterfield secured a unanimous victory at then the Proact Arena – beating the Blues 7-0 to progress in the county cup competition.

United will be looking to cause an upset this time round, but a momentum fuelled Step One side will of course be difficult to overcome.

When asked on his aims during Tuesday night’s Derbyshire Senior Cup match against Chesterfield, Blues boss Brad Munn said: “The biggest aim is to go and win that game of football, plain and simple. Regardless of who or what they send, we are going to do our best to get on the front foot and go and win the game, because when you have not won many games in a season, every game counts.

“We need to try and get positive results from positives performances, and then after a few positive performances, we can start to build some momentum and consistency.

“Simply put, we need to put that 90 minutes together and book our slot in the next round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup.”
