Long Eaton United fell to Emirates FA Cup defeat as Luke Benbow inspired a comeback victory for Stourbridge to send them through to the Second Round Qualifying.

Marley Fearon put the Blues ahead midway through the first half before being cancelled out by a Benbow penalty kick moments before the break.

Stourbridge were fuelled with momentum in the second half, as Niall Flint etched the visitors ahead before Alexander Prosser secured victory for the Glassboys.

The Blues’ management duo opted to make just three changes to the starting squad from Bank Holiday Monday’s defeat – Ed Cook and Nathan Whitehead both came out of the squad, with Adam Clark beginning on the bench; and in their places came Micah Jebbison, George Atwal and Ryley Reynolds.

As the game began, United seemed to be the side that looked most like scoring and that was evident in only the 3rd minute. Callum Cocks’ in-swinging corner met the head of Fearon inside the box but it was ultimately cleared off the line by the Stourbridge defender.

Possession was the aim of the game for the next 25 minutes, as both sides looking to create chances, but nothing shone through as clear cut – that did in fact come in the 30th minute when Micah Jebbison’s glancing header flew just wide of the target.

The breakthrough did finally come for the Blues through Fearon on the half-hour mark. Zayn Hakeem held up play superbly before finding Jebbison out wide - the Canadian winger then fed Fearon inside the box with a square ball to allow the finish.

Just moments later, Stourbridge were awarded a penalty by the referee, to the disbelief of the home side, for an apparent nudge in the back inside the United box. Benbow stepped up to take and powered the spot kick down the middle and into the back of the net.

Keiran Walker continued to pester the opposition defence with his lethal long throw-ins, especially one that came in the 44th minute, as Hakeem rose highest looking for his first United goal, although it was blocked and defended well by the Glassboys’ defence.

Both sides searched for a second after the restart, and it was the visitors that came closest once again. Dexter Walters recovered a loose ball down the left and drove into the Blues’ box before curling an effort just wide of Ross Durrant’s far post.

Six minutes later, Fearon could have secured his brace, as a fantastic Jebbison cross met the head of the towering midfielder in acres of space in the centre of the box, however, Fearon could not quite guide his header on target.

At the midway point of the second half, the visitors did manage to capitalise and get themselves ahead. Flint pounced on a lack of concentration from the hosts, with shouts for offside waved away, and the winger simply curled an effort into the bottom left corner.

Prosser came close with a towering header late in the match, but Durrant was equal to the danger and caught the ball well.

However, in the dying moments, Prosser did get the goal he was looking for, as the ball dropped to the midfielder from a deep cross and with a low strike towards the near post, Prosser managed to secure victory for the Glassboys.
