After a goalless end to the first-half, Kevin Bastos slotted home the go-ahead goal late on to separate the two sides.
The match was abandoned five minutes from time after the referee produced a red card for Micah Jebbison and several Belper Town players following an incident by the touchline.
In a hectic start to the match Bastos proved to be a handful and won a penalty in just the second minute of play. However, Ross Durrant dived down to his left and made a great save to deny his former club an early opener.
Adam Clark had the first effort on target for The Blues but the Belper Town goalkeeper was equal to the shot from a narrow angle.
Minutes later, Micah Jebbison had a similar chance on the opposite flank as he beat his marker to a teasing pass from deep by Cieron Keane - although the shot that followed was hit wide of the target from a challenging angle.
At the other end of the pitch Jebbison put in the hard yards as he tracked back to defend and put an end to a quick counterattack from the visitors with a strong shoulder barge and a well-timed tackle on the edge of the area.
As the match approached half-time, Alex Hardwick would have been left wondering how he had not scored the opener, as his close-range attempt was cleared off the line by a determined Belper Town defence.
Shortly after the restart, Ian Deakin opted for a change at the top end of the pitch as he introduced Cameren Philip, Tom Cursons and Kam Campbell from the bench.
Following a lacklustre start to the second-half, Belper Town took the lead in the 78th minute. Bastos found space in the box to shoot and picked out the bottom right corner to give The Nailers the lead with time running out.
Towards the end of the match the referee sent off Jebbison and two Belper Town players following a fracas by the touchline and the match was called to a premature end.
