Young Blues Out Foxed
Young Blues Out Foxed
Sunday’s fixture saw our young reserves make the short trip down the M1 to face Loughborough Foxes.
With the inclusion of 1st team players our hopes were high to turn around a 6 – 1 cup defeat inflicted on us earlier in the season.
Playing in our new away strip our girls set the tempo in the early stages getting behind the ball and forcing our opponents to be more direct with their attacks by playing lofted ball over our defensive line.
After 8 minutes neat work by Elle Rowson, saw her play an inch perfect pass through to Lucy Clapp who proceeded to beat the last defender and fire a shot low into the bottom corner giving the Loughborough keeper little chance to save.
Our host then increased the pressure and were finding space within the final 3rd with neat interlinking play and peppering shots off which Aimee Deller was dealing with admirably. We were soaking up the pressure and hitting onto the counter attack a long ball play by Clapp, gave Maisie Eagling a chance after beating off the defenders attention to fire a shot which the keeper pushed out for a corner.
Our resilience was finally broken in a 5 minute period before the break, two unforced errors gave the Loughborough forwards time and space to score 2 quick goals on 41 and 42. On 45 we conceded a 3rd, a corner was met by a Loughborough forward and unchallenged directed a powerful header past a stranded Deller.
Half Time 3 – 1
Second half saw the introduction of Linsley who replaced an injured Williams and Shardlow who was a tactical switch for Crawford. Our hosts were now in control of the game which saw them during the half create numerous chances all off which Deller fended off brilliantly, still keeping us in the game.
Our final changes were made in the latter stages with Frances, Howells and Hallam coming on.
Although under the cosh Long Eaton were still in the game switching to a 4 – 4 – 2 line up we started to have more impact going forward with us creating a couple of chances to score, on 85 a lofted ball over the back line saw Eagling hit a shot which looked destined for the top corner, only to see the keeper pull of a save diverting for a corner.
Final score 3 – 1
