Reserves show further potential

Reserves show further potential

Long Eaton United Ladies reserves welcomed Cardiff City LFC to Grange Park this Sunday. Cardiff have been getting results in there first fixtures, drawing to Stoke last week who were last years league champions.

The young blues started with a slightly different shape this week to compensate for missing personnel and to welcome first team players Chloe who deputised as captain in midfield and lucie a extremely experienced fullback.

Our blues looked solid from the off and we almost opened up the scoring first on more than one occasion and Cardiff had to rethink their game plan as we looked comfortable dealing with them in our defensive third. A switch with our wingers lucy and Imogen made it more difficult for Cardiff as Lucy was finding great space on the right side playing in Maisie and finding the back of the net but a dubious off side ruled out the goal. 0-0 at half time wasn’t a true reflection on the young blues first half performance.

Second half got underway and Cardiff to their credit came out firing. They immediately began to find space out wide and caused the blues problems. Unfortunately we were slow to react and two quick goals came. Composure was lost slightly and we had to defend our 18 yard box. A third came from a missed timed clearance from kara and unfortunately found the back of the blues net. The young blues didn’t stop pushing to get back in the game and another finish by Maisie was disallowed my the lines person when the ball looked to hit the inside of the post and caught by the keeper inside her goal. The young blues played out to the final whistle and left it all on the pitch.

Cardiff deserved the win and showed some great quality second half. A respectful group of players and staff and we wish them all the luck for the rest of the season.
