LONG EATON UTD:- MATTHEWS THURMAN WINFIELD McGRATH WILSON GIBBONS HANCOCK HOOLEY HILTON MORGAN RUCK KING MARSHALL
Although the hospitality is always very good and the welcome always a nice one, it has to be said that it is not an enjoyable fixture mainly down to the manager and his lack of knowledge of the game for starters, bad man management, negativity and worst of all the persistant niggling at the ref. Not only does he talk a pile of but writes it also. Richard and head come to mind. Below a few classics why his team are never beaten in his own words.... Suthwell v Rainworth
cruel luck delivered the points to Rainworth
when upended in the box (visible by the skid marks!) only for the ref to award a free kick outside...
and from the resulting misdirected cross, we failed to close quickly enough and a scuffed shot evaded Danby as he slipped in the greasy, snowy conditions. Another soft goal.
A corner was headed home only for the linesman to chalk it off
From an innocuous 50:50 ball on our left flank, a hoof from the home side flew right across to the opposite top corner
V Long Eaton 1st match at Grange
Haynes again skipped past the defence and cut into the penalty box where a tackle from behind audibly scythed him down but the officials view must have been blocked by the copious smoke drifiting across the pitch from the large bonfire lit in a local residents garden!
Within 10 minutes and on their first foray into our box we went behind. It started with Johnson injured in a strong tackle and coming back on to run it off. We had decided to make the change but before we could, Barnes was upended and landed heavily on his right shoulder. He recieved attention but wasn't right and walked off the pitch when Long Eaton were awarded a foul in their own half. Despite my attempts to make the sub (not like me not to be heard!), the ref started the game, leaving us effectively with 9 and we allowed a midfield move to penetrate down our left, a lay off in the area and we were 1 down
The Long Eaton second was a cross which we failed to deal with and despite 8 defenders in the box, the ball still fell to the forward who poked it home.
