Ladies League Match Report

The Blues had to make sure they took care of business this week after their heroic adventures in the FA cup and they didn’t disappoint by beating Kingsthorpe 2 nil at Grange Park to put them third in the table and back in the title race.

The Blues made hard work of the win despite dominating most of the match.

Long Eaton started brightly and the visitors struggled under the pressure and it didn’t take long for Jodie Hancock to connect with a Carly Hayes corner, leaving the keeper no chance.

The ladies pressed on determined to score more goals against league newcomers Kingsthorpe. However despite going close on several occasions and plenty of balls flying into the box the Blues couldn’t stretch their lead.

This frustrated the ladies side who knew they could play better and when the visitors did attack all were aware that one mistake could put the home side in trouble. Yet despite the efforts to ease the pressure they were still only 1 nil up at half time.

The second half began with the Kingsthorpe team defending the Long Eaton onslaught yet again but credit to the visitors they did not let the Blues through easily and again frustrations grew as the ladies tried to increase their lead.

The management threw on 3 subs and tinkered with the formation to provide more attacking force and eventually this paid off as 5 minutes from time Jodie Hancock managed to latch onto a ball from the midfield to slot home in the far post.

Final Score: 2 – 0

It showed the intentions of the ladies team that they were not happy with a 2 nil win, goal difference could prove vital in their quest for promotion, however it was a clean sheet and 3 points in the bag.

Next week is the biggest game in the ladies history as they face Midlands Combination high flyers Coventry City in the 1st round of the FA Cup, kick off 2pm Sunday 8th November, free entry, all support welcomed.
