Long Eaton United Ladies take the league title and a coveted place in the Premier division next year after a competent 7-3 win over Kingsthorpe.
The Blues did not find out they were promoted until a few hours after their game so the proper celebrations will kick off next week.
Before the game the ladies knew they could not afford to loose as 4 games would seal the title and Hinckley were still breathing down their necks waiting for them to slip up.
A hot day made play difficult but the Blues tried to keep it simple with a depleted squad due to illness and many others were still carrying heavy legs from Thursday nights game.
Within the first 10 minutes Long Eaton made their intentions clear as they exposed the holes in the home side defence.
Armstrong found herself in a crossing position from the right and Charlotte Healy was on cue to smash home the first of the game.
After that it seemed the flood gates had opened as goals came from Jodie Hancock. Then the Long eaton number 9 turned provider as she played a cheeky little one-two with midfielder Kimmie Harford to get her on the scoresheet.
Lisa Jones and Hannah Draycott also added goals to take the tally to 6 nil to the blues, Kingsthorpe looking dead and buried
Then right before the half time break, Harrison was deemed to be holding back the Kingsthorpe striker as they attacked the Blues defence and conceded a free kick to the left of the 18 yard area.
The resulting kick was a beaut, no one could have stoppped it as it flew into the top right of the goal.
Even at 6-1 up the Blues the management team demanded more from the Blues and it looked like it could be a score line that would reach double figures.
However the restart saw a resurgent Kingsthorpe, maybe there was somthing on their half time orange squash but they fought their way back into the game and nicked a goal within a few minutes.
The Blues couldn’t regain their first half form. This was all the encouragement the home side needed and they scored another although it only came due to a foul on Harford just in front of the 18 yard area which the ref claimed he didn’t see.
The Blues struggled on and Draycott scored a tap in after good work from Hancock down the left flank to take the score to 7-3.
In the end it was a case of seeing out the game to the end as Bramman, Strange and Robinson all picked up injuries.
Finally the whistle blew for full time. The 7-3 scoreline could have been a lot worse for Kingsthorpe had Long Eaton been on top of their game in the second 45 and the ladies were disappointed not to have scored more goals, a testament to their ambitions this season.
The ladies had great support at the match again on Sunday so many thanks to those who came to watch.
The league title is in the bag but the blues still hav 2 games left were they will be hoping to finish on a high.
