LONG EATON UTD 2 - 0 BRODSWORTH (UPDATED)

The fixture that you are expected to win by a high score arrived with a damp gloomy day. Brodsworth looked a young side and early exchanges set the presidence for the game with the Blues on the attack. A succesion of corners and half chances were not taken advantage of with Gavin Saxby a spectator. The Blues were patient though and Shane Newton should have scored twice but both times missed the target. It took 21 minutes for the visitor's first shot which never troubled Saxby. Spencer whipped a corner over which Nathan Watson pounced on but again Broody defended well and cleared off the line. Eventually the patience was rewarded when another corner saw Kevin Mabon beat the keeper in the air and the ball fell to Shane Newton who tapped in. A huge sigh of relief around the ground for the Blues supporters but really it was Broddy who had defended well leaving half time 1-0.

David Leek had to come off at half time being replaced by Jamie Eaton. Adam Newton went to right back with Mushambi and Eaton in the center of midfield leaving Mabon and S Newton up front. Again it was all Long Eaton and after 55 minutes Spencer who had been ill all week was replaced by Lee Sutton who went straight up front and Shane going to right wing. The next 20 minutes were to be the Blues best with Shane roasting the full back time and again and only heroics by the Broddy keeper kept it ant 1-0. However a good move put Shane in past the full back, who was dead on his feet, and a great cross saw Kev Mabon finish in style, guiding the ball low past the keeper. The full back was replaced immediately as was Shane who had cramped up. Joel Hodgkinson came on in a straight swap and made an impact with his first touch, crossing to Sutton who with the empty and from 6 yards blasted against the bar.

It has to be said that you can see why some teams have scored many and the likes of Scarboro and Pickering have only won by the odd goal as you will create many chances against Broddy and some days they will fly in and other days they won't. The Blues created numerous chances but credit the keeper and the Broddy boys for their defending even after they have only 2 draws from the last 23 games. Credit to the new management team who with Mitchell and Parker suspended, Adam Campbell also adding to the injuriy worry have now three straight league wins under their belt.

MOM:- Although still hanging on to the ball some times for too long, Shane Newton was a constant pain until he cramped up and gets the MOM award.
