Long Eaton United 3 Hucknall 3
Long Eaton 3 Hucknall 3.
I remember my nan telling me once of my granddad coming home drunk one night and saying “who moved the fireplace”. I get that feeling now each time i see Long Eaton play as there is always different players for each game, it cant help team bonding but the worst thing for me is i have got to learn new faces and putting names to faces is not my strong point though events of the last two months have proved my only strong point is being able to take the brown stuff thrown at me and still be able to come back for them to throw more. So last night as two new faces turned up Brady and White it confuse matters even more. ( so if i get names wrong i am sorry).
I didn't know what to expect from this game as i thought Hucknall were a few leagues above us and the post from Jim earlier in the day made me think they would send a decent team. Though talking to some of there fans the team was no were near there first team. I do not know if that is true or not but it seems strange to play a game because they havn't played for a while like as and only send a token team.
We started with Gints as captain and Palo on the bench so i knew what ever the score for me it was going to be my kind of game.
We started well but it was still nip and tuck. They seemed very weak down there right flank so w were able to make the most of it with Gints and Watson linking up to supply Brady and White in the middle. We didn't seem to worry them too much though as our final delivery was weak. Both Watson and Musshie had some good try s. They also had a couple of good chances but getting to the by line put the ball either too high or it just went straight across the area with no one to collect. The game was played at break neck speed and i couldn't help but thinking that we were never going to keep this pace up for ninety minuets.
On about six minuets a good run by Brady followed by a pass out to Newton on the right. His final delivery found Brady in the middle, he seemed to lose it but then recovered well and was finally able to get his shot away which flew straight into the net. One nill things were looking up.
We started to get at them and they did not seem t have any answer to our continued onsault. There only answer was to try to kick it over our back line to get there forward away but luckily or due to our wily backs they kept getting caught offside. I remember thinking all was going well but their was always the chance they would beat our offside trap and score.
On 17 minuets Parker on the half way line got it to Mussie who got it to Watson on the left he was able to find Newton in the middle but his shot rebounded off one of there players luckily the ball found Parker but he had his back to goal and couldn't turn so he got it to Brady who took no time in getting his shot away for his and our second.
For some reason we then took Brady off.
They did try to get back, but our backs were up to it though they did come close and it was only a great clearance off the line by Watson that kept them out. We then responded with great work by Spencer. He did get behind them once but a little chip on the right was just a little to weak and there goalie caught it which was unfortunate as Newton was standing right behind him waiting to collect the ball.
So that was it Half time Long Eaton 2 Hucknall 0
Coming out in the second half i had Jim's comment at a previous match that two nill is not a god score, then even before i could get my flag tied up they scored twice within two minuets. If you have seen previous matches you will know just how the two goals went failing to clear meaning giving them the room to shot.
I was now expecting a white wash had they put out a bad team in the first and a strong one in the second or were they just toying with us all along. We soon restored our composure though but it seemed that now we had broken up the Brady Bunch (sorry) our scoring chances had become diminished. If fact White didn't look the same player as he did in the first half at all.
Then on 70 we got our break as a quickly returned ball from the ball boy gave Watson a chance to set up his corner, booting it in he found Spencer in the box who took no time in shooting at goal. Unfortunately it hit one of there players to rebound out to Mussie. He then took little time in getting it under control and shot for goal. This shot also hit one of there players and luckily found Shane. It was third time lucky as he found the back of the net and we were back on top.
The game continued along the same lines but then on about 80 they were able to get the ball across our area to one of there players just on the corner of the box who had all the space and time to line up his shot and score there equliser.
The moment came i had been waiting for for the last four months as Adam was taken off and Palo started his first team come back. There don't seem to be so much fun at Grange this year so his arrival was not greeted with the kind of response i would of liked but he was truly back and showed he had not lost any of his old skills.
There then came the strangest incident of the match as the Assistant started to wave his flag as if the dirtiest foul in the world had occurred. The ref seemed to think it was a Hucknall free kick but then after an age the Assistant finally pointed our way and explained that the Hucknall player was pulling Spencers shirt so all was turned round and we got a free kick just by the home dugout.
Our last chance came when Shane got thought but was faced by three defenders so was not able to proceed any further. Why O why do they always get a corner of free kick in the last minuet to put my nerves on edge but luckily the corner was a bad one and the Ref blew for full time with the scores equal.
For what it is worth:
hard to call this game as i do not know the standard of the other team were they just bad or did we out play them. I feel a little of both. A new line up and the Brady bunch great the time together. Not only working so well together but inspiring others to up the anti. Great to see Palo back,
For me the ref was very poor and made some strange derisions like the time Palo was held back as he got past but even though the ref put the whistle to his lips he didn't blow though i must admit so did as i couldn't take any more stupidity or maybe it was just that Palo was involved. Though saying that i didn't think it really made any difference to the game as his decisions did not effect goal scoring opportunities.

good and fair match report and was a good run out for the lads in the end, only negative of the night was again the goalie and not convinced with his ability to help us move forward, mind you he is following a charactor and half in ross whalin.
